Portmahomack

Portmahomack is a charming old Highland fishing village, situated at the end of a quiet road on the Tarbat peninsula, facing west, across the Dornoch firth. It is a secret jewel in the Highlands, known only to a privileged few visitors, who return year after year to enjoy the beautiful clean, safe, sandy beach, rock pools, and picturesque harbour.

About 45 minutes drive North from Inverness, and 10 miles from the charming Ancient Burgh of Tain, ‘the Port’, as it is known as by the locals, is situated at the end of a road with no through access other than to Tarbat Ness lighthouse. It thus enjoys a peacefulness and sense of isolation, yet is within easy reach of many of the Highlands finest attractions.

The Tarbat peninsula lies sandwiched between the Moray Firth & the Dornoch Firth, and the area is reputed to enjoy the driest climate in Scotland.

The Tarbat Discovery Centre is an amazing Pictish interpretive centre, situated in the ancient parish church, and on the site of a fascinating archaeological dig.
There are 2 hotels, a restaurant, a village shop, 2 churches, and a 9-hole Golf course, which welcomes visitors.

This is our third visit to Mo-Dhachaidh and every time it just gets better. The house is (as always) fantastic, the view is as breathtaking as it is ever changing, and the peace and quiet is just perfect.

Once again thank you Ross, Shirley and Wilma for making our stay one of the highlights of our year.

Loved the cottage. Beautiful location, child friendly, very well equipped. The perfect place for a peaceful, relaxing holiday. Unfortunately, we didn't see any otters, although our little girl was very taken with the squirrel and the rabbit in the garden! Hope to return to Portmahomack again.

We had a simply wonderful, relaxing stay here. The cottage is so well equipped, it was truly a home from home; we wanted for nothing and all the local information and contact details were to hand. The view from the balcony has to be seen to be believed. I hope to return.

The Kirkbride Family

We have just returned from a fabulous visit to portmahomack, everything went far beyond our expectations....The cottage, the village everything.
The children (8 and 5) had a ball and particularly enjoyed playing with Wilma's dogs on the beach...it was difficult to decide who was chasing who!!
The sunsets were truly stunning and we were lucky enough to regularly watch a heron paddling in the shallows.
The weather had its moments but on the whole we were lucky..We had a great time at Dunrobin,RAF Tain,Falls of Shin, Loch Ness to name but a few of the marvelous things to do in the area ...However the best of all was to walk along the beach with the children and have a relaxing pint outside the Caledonian Hotel while watching the kids playing on the beach..then back to watch the sunset from the balcony....bliss (didn't want to come home)

No need to go out when you have the privilege to stay in a cottage that is equiped & furnished to the highest standards, also fantastic location & amazing views from every room. The welcoming gifts were the icing on the cake. After more than 20yrs of self catering cottages in scotland none have come anywhere near to the standards of this beautiful beachhouse.
Thanks to Shirley,Wilma & team.
